The US on Monday blocked key waterways at Iranian ports and coastal areas. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the White House stating that he had received a call from relevant figures in Iran expressing hope to reach an agreement.

Trump reiterated that negotiations had failed because Iran insisted on retaining its nuclear program. He said he is confident that Iran will ultimately agree to forgo the nuclear program and stressed again that no agreement will be reached unless Iran makes concessions.

US equities turned north following Trump's remarks, recouping earlier losses. The DJIA edged up 28 points, the S&P 500 hiked 30 points or 0.5%; with techs leading gains, the Nasdaq climbed 150 points or 0.7%. Oracle (ORCL.US) surged 11%, while Palantir (PLTR.US) rallied 4%.
